Summary:

The topic of the practical learning mobility project "Together against LGBT-based bullying: Adoption of good Icelandic practices" is the development of a support system for LGBT students facing bullying based on their sexual orientation and gender identity.

The purpose of the practical learning mobility is to strengthen the competences of LGL employees and volunteers of the emotional support platform for LGBT students in providing emotional support to young people facing bullying, to promote the exchange of best practices between LGL and "Samtokin78", and to identify possible directions for further cooperation in the field of bullying prevention.

The practical learning mobility program strengthened the competences of the participants in providing emotional support to young people facing bullying, encouraged the exchange of best practices between LGL and Samtokin78, and enabled the identification of possible directions for further cooperation in the field of bullying prevention.

The practical learning mobility program also strengthened the motivation of long-term volunteers of the LGL emotional support platform, encouraged them to become more actively involved in advocacy activities and become the voice of young people facing bullying, thus empowering a vulnerable group of LGBT young people.

Partners: Iceland’s National Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities, Iceland

Summary:

The team members of the Education Committee of the Forum of Lithuanian Disability Organizations, representing different disability organizations, visited the Icelandic umbrella organization of people with disabilities - Proskahjal. This organization unites other organizations and implements different initiatives related to the education of people with disabilities both in general education and in professional or higher education. During the visit, we worked with this organization and its members. We visited a general school where all children are educated regardless of their disability, and we also met with the staff and students of the Faculty of Education of the University of Reykjavík who implement an inclusive program at the university for students with intellectual disabilities. One of the most important goals of the visit is to get to know the initiatives that promote the independence of people with intellectual disabilities. Therefore, we also visited workplaces and homes where people with intellectual disabilities live independently with assistance.

Summary:

This practical mobility learning project provided an opportunity to learn about the principles of peer support in another country, which is also just starting to implement the principles of peer support in the mental health system. This allows for a common understanding of what peer support is, thus enabling both countries to contribute to the implementation of this initiative and share existing knowledge and practices. Such cooperation is particularly important as it can be mutually beneficial for the development of both countries.

The NGO Mental Health Perspectives and the NGO Traustur Kjarni jointly organised a sharing of good practice in Iceland - Traustur Kjarni organised a mutual support training and co-organised it with representatives of the NGO Mental Health Perspectives. In total, the 10-day visit included visits to 3 NGOs and 1 governmental organisation, 40 hours of training, where all participants were empowered to provide mutual support themselves.

The network established with Icelandic organisations working in the field of mental health promotion and peer support will allow both organisations to be more confident in the implementation of both the training on this topic and in the continuation of the service delivery.
